Description
Tapir Valley and Chocolate Tour
Tapir Valley Nature Reserve is located at the base of Tenorio Volcano. This 20-acre wetland is a rewilded former cattle ranch where you will find the endemic Tapir Valley tree frog. A two-hour hike will take you through the lush rainforest, where you can listen to the frogs, spot birds and possibly see tapirs roaming and feeding. The tour continues at Tree Chocolate. This activity features the history, process, and tasting of chocolate (cacao), but the highlight is learning from the charismatic farmer and his family behind the project. The tour takes place on their property, a great example of rural tourism. You will not only learn about chocolate but also gain an awareness of the production and uses of sugar cane, coffee, and medicinal plants.
