Description
P.N. Volcán Irazú | Prusia | Sanatorio Duran | Basílica Cartago
Your day begins with visiting the highest active volcano in Costa Rica, Irazú. Referred to as the “Colossus” by Costa Ricans, it is the tallest of the 112 volcanoes in our country at 3432 meters above sea level. Following the volcano visit, we will hike for approximately 1.5 hours in the magical, fairytale-like forest, Prusia. Our next stop is a place of urban legends, ghost stories, and paranormal activity: the Sanatorio Duran. This former hospital was used to treat Tuberculosis patients but has been abandoned for a few decades. We end the day with a visit to the most important Catholic Basilica of Costa Rica, due to the pilgrimage that happens every August 2nd to see “La Negrita”, the Patron Saint of Costa Rica.
