Description
Arenal Volcano Hike with Rocks Workshop
On this adventure, we hike through the rainforest at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Your guide will lead you on a 1.2-mile (2 km) trail through primary and secondary forests, where you can identify this area’s flora and fauna. As you approach the volcano’s lava fields, you’ll learn about Arenal’s eruption history while given one of Costa Rica’s most iconic locations. This hike also provides majestic views of Lake Arenal, the largest lake in the country, and the continental divide.
As you reach the old lava flows at the height of the trek, you will participate in the Lava Rocks workshop. In this hands-on experience, you will use tools, pickaxes, and magnifying glasses to identify volcanic rocks and learn about their classifications, such as pyroxene, olivine, and plagioclase.
